~ Touched ~

Hi, hope everyone is finding themselves in a happy place this evening. I had a tough day at work today and I just can not get something out of my head. One of my patients said to me today that he was writing the final chapter of his life. He was writing letters to all of his family and friends telling them how much he loved them etc. It was so sad because he has cancer. He began crying and said there is nothing like love and then he preceded to wipe the tears away. He is one of the sweetest patients I have ever cared for. He always says thank you and comments on the great job everyone is doing. Then he told one of the other nurse's I was working with that I was the best. My heart is filled with such sadness right now because I know what the final outcome is going to bring, but he said he was not afraid to die and you should tell everyone how much you love them because the powers to be may have a different plan for you. I am so touched by him and that is what makes nursing so hard. Every now and then there is a patient who comes along and sprinkles that little bit of sunshine on your heart and it becomes difficult to not become emotionally attached. So in closing this evening don't forget to hug that special person or persons in your life and tell them how much you love them.
Good night.
